Ending funding gaps for medical students.

 

There are many gaps in the funding for medical students. Students from low-income households and students who identify as under-represented minorities in medicine are especially at risk. Students attempt to bridge these financial gaps by maxing out credit cards, skipping meals, missing rent payments, and not purchasing educational tools such as test preparation materials. Standard financial aid and official institutional subsidies fail to address the needs of dozens of University of Michigan medical students each year.

Who are we?

 

The Shield Fund is a not-for profit organization dedicated to health equity and facilitating a pipeline of excellence into healthcare.

100% of donations will be used to support students. Students in need will make a request.

Support priorities include:

  • Preventing hunger

  • Preventing housing insecurity

  • Paying healthcare expenses

  • Providing academic support (i.e. test preparation materials)

If you are facing financial hardship (including but not limited to to spending money on preclinical or clinical academic support resources, such as AMBOSS, Osmosis, Pathoma, UWorld subscriptions, shelf exam NBMEs, STEP 1, 2 CK, 2 CS study materials or registration or any other unforeseen situation) the Shield Fund is here ready and willing to assist.
